Volunteer Build with Habitat for Humanity 3-7 October
Challenging Times
We're already two weeks into October! The past few weeks have been extremely busy for the Khuthaza team and it looks like things will stay this way through the end of the year.
There is no doubt that we are all experiencing challenging times with the international economy in turmoil and our own construction industry very quiet. We are concerned that the current slowdown will have a long-term negative impact on gains we have made in transformation - both in terms of career development and contractor development.
While the steps may be smaller and slower than they were just a couple of years ago, we all need to continue moving forward. Don't give up, we won't!
Volunteer Build
Khuthaza partnered with FEM earlier this month to build houses in Orange Farm on a Habitat for Humanity (HFH) volunteer build. Two Khuthaza contractors, Letta Mthimunye and Tsakani Mudau, were appointed by HFH to oversee 10 houses and nearly 50 participants in our Contractor Development programmes volunteered during the week. Particularly for those in Cornerstone it was a great opportunity to gain practical experience. Thanks to FEM for proposing the idea and for sponsoring the transport, gloves, snacks etc! Thanks to HFH for giving us the opportunity.
All Hands On Deck
Our work is only possible through the support of sponsors and collaboration with the inudstry. To succeed we need everyone on board - all hands on deck - if you are able to contribute through sponsorship, skills, time, training, equipment, services etc please let us know. We're already looking toward 2012!
Thank you, Liz

Khuthaza Centre at Tiber, 2 Baldwin Road (Corner Eloff St Extension), Village Deep (Joburg)
We're meeting with a wide range of industry roleplayers with the aim of getting them involved in the Centre. Plans are moving ahead and we look forward to launching the Centre in Feb/March 2012. Our current programmes have been running from the building and next week we'll also have 12 contractors from WBHO's Enterprise Development Programme joining us for the Green Building session.
We'll be hiring out training rooms as part of the Centre's services. If you have skills / services to share with our target market or are interested in hiring the training rooms please contact us - liz@khuthaza.org.za
As you know, the furnished building is sponsored by Tiber. We are pleased to recognise Paul Andy of Signman www.signman.co.za as they have contributed the Khuthaza signage and Amelia Ramphadi of Amelia Women Project www.ameliawproject.co.za who is providing weekly cleaning service pro bono.
Together we can create a one-stop-shop that will support the industry!
